Summer Art Camps for Ages 11-14

Choose one or more camps for budding artists, ages 11-14. All camps meet Wednesday through Friday.
                  

Drawing Studio
June 28 - 30, 1 pm - 4 pm

Aspiring young artists will improve drawing skills using charcoal, conte crayons, and colorful pastels. Drawing from observation, students explore shape, proportion, scale, perspective, contrast, and shading. Discover different techniques to develop personal style, and find inspiration in the GCMA galleries.

Course fee is $85 plus $30 for take-home materials. Register here.

Bookmaking: Story of Your Life
July 12 - 14, 1 pm - 5 pm

Join us at the GCMA for an engaging and challenging bookmaking workshop featuring daily break-out sessions with guest artist and lecturer, Victoria Wyeth, who will engage young artists in thinking about how they can paint their lives and tell their stories. The remainder of class time will be spent focusing on creating and binding handmade books to be used as journals, chapbooks, or just beautiful works of art. Work with a variety of tools and materials, including paper, cloth, board, adhesives, and threads.

Gelatin Printmaking Studio 

July 19 - 21, 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

In this printmaking studio, serious art students can discover the creative and engaging process of gelatin printmaking. Finding inspiration in found objects and the natural environment, students will refine their printmaking skills while creating a variety of collage-based prints.

Stop-motion Animation
July 26 - 28, 2 pm - 5 pm

Art and technology meet in this fun exploration of stop-motion animation techniques. Utilizing props, drawings, and cameras, students will work in groups to create their own animated short films. Students will need to bring an iPad or smart phone to camp for the week and will be asked to download a required app before class (approximately $5).

Comic Book Art
August 9 - 11, 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Back by popular demand! For kids that love drawing and comic books, this camp combines both into a fun experience. Young artists will create characters and write a story, while learning about design, layout, and the production process. Together, each team will make an amazing comic magazine!
