Exhibition | Andrew Wyeth: Loans from Private Collections

Mar 19, 2025 — Apr 19, 2025

Inspired as a teenager by the atmospheric watercolors of Winslow Homer (1836-1910), Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009), was hailed as Homer’s successor in the medium with his first sold-out exhibition at New York’s prestigious Macbeth Gallery in 1937.

Wyeth’s subjects focused on two locations: Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, his birthplace, and Cushing, Maine, his second home since childhood. Drawing inspiration from the distinctive characteristics of these locations, he never strayed far from the people and places he knew best, achieving universality in local subjects.

The twelve works exhibited here are drawn from private collections in the southeastern United States. Including works from seven decades of Wyeth’s career, the installation exemplifies the maturing artist’s restless experimentation with paint application and texture.
