Share this page Nov 12, 2022 — Aug 27, 2023 Home to the world’s largest public collection of watercolors by renowned American artist Andrew Wyeth, the GCMA also boasts one of the world’s largest public collections of paintings and prints by iconic artist Jasper Johns. The Museum houses the largest institutional collection of Edgefield pottery by enslaved artisan David Drake and the largest collection outside the Smithsonian of works by South Carolina-born artist William H. Johnson. Ranging from Federal portraits to contemporary abstractions, the acclaimed Southern Collection invites viewers to survey American art history through works with ties to the South. Although several GCMA galleries continue to be closed for construction, the Museum is pleased to present the exhibition Collection Highlights, which features artworks from the GCMA’s most important (and beloved) collections. Explore works by Andrew Wyeth, Jamie Wyeth, Jasper Johns, and William H. Johnson along with highlights from the Museum’s collection of African-American Art, Charleston Renaissance works, and American Impressionism as well as important examples of Edgefield pottery.
