Brian Rutenberg (born 1965), a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has spent forty years honing a distinctive method of compressing the rich color and form of the Carolina coast into complex landscape paintings.
Rutenberg received his BFA in 1987 from the College of Charleston and his MFA in 1989 from the School of Visual Arts, New York. His paintings are included in such museum collections as Yale University Art Gallery, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, South Carolina State Museum, and the Greenville County Museum of Art, which, in 1993, hosted his first museum exhibition.
Today he lives and works in New York City, and his series of YouTube videos titled "Brian Rutenberg Studio Visits" are viewed daily by people all over the world.
Renowned sculptor and collector, John Raimondi, who owns the John Raimondi Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, gave the GCMA sixteen Rutenberg paintings from his personal collection. The paintings date from 1989 to 2014.
