“The images in a picture book are the driving forces that tell the story. The words tell only what the pictures can’t.” — Dan Yaccarino
Award-winning artist Dan Yaccarino grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, where he whiled away the hours with comic books, vintage cartoons and films, and toys. Today, children around the globe know Yaccarino from his books The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau, Five Little Pumpkins, and All the Way to America. Yaccarino has also captivated children and their parents with his animated television series Oswald. Acclaimed for his creative influence on the programs Willa’s Wild Life and The Backyardigans, Yaccarino also has had work featured in a number of publications, including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Time.
The Fantastic World of Dan Yaccarino is on view at the GCMA April 11 through July 5, 2015. The exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature.
