Inspired by his native Charleston’s timeworn and weathered buildings, noted artist and educator William Halsey replicated the centuries-old façades by sculpting discarded fragments variously into elegantly sparse bas reliefs encrusted with layers of paint and debris, making his most advanced contributions to late 20^th-century American art. William Halsey: Full Fathom Flotsam, conceived in honor of the centennial of the artist’s birth year, brings together the largest group of Halsey’s assemblages ever exhibited.
